Jnanpith awardee C Narayana Reddy passes away

Jnanpith awardee and famous cine lyricist Dr C Narayana Reddy passed away here on Monday. He is also the recipient of Padmashree in 1977, Padmabhushan in 1992, the Sahitya Akademi Award and honorary doctorate from Andhra University. Popularly known as"cinare" he was born in Karimnagar district of united Andhra Pradesh on 29 July 1931.

Encouraged by NTR he started writing songs for Telugu movies from 1962. His first work was for NTR's home production Gulebakavali Katha. He was an instant hit with his song “Nannudochukunduvate”.Cinare wrote around 3000 songs. In August 1977 he was nominated for Rajyasabha.In 1980 he wrote magnum opus Viswambhara for which he won Jnanapeeth award in 1988.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in his condolence message said that the contributions made and services rendered in the field of literature by Dr Narayan Reddy can never be forgotten. He instructed the Chief Secretary SP Singh to make arrangements to conduct the funeral of Late Sri C Narayana Reddy with police honours. The cremation will take place at Mahaprasthanam in Jubilee Hills on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the who’s who of Tollywood industry offered tributes to Dr Narayan Reddy. Actors, producers and politicians arrived at Dr Reddy’s residence at Dollorhills near Puppalaguda here and consoled the bereaved family. Narayan Reddy is survived by four daughters.
