Int'l Yoga Day celebrations shifted to Mysuru Race Club

Officials moot single venue to accommodate participants

The district administration has decided to shift the venue of the International Yoga Day celebrations to the Mysuru Race Club (MRC) in the city after officials of the Guinness Book of World Records suggested the change so as to accommodate all participants.

The administration hopes to create a world record for the highest number of participants performing asanas at a single venue. The officials had earlier planned to accommodate participants at different venues such as major streets in the city, Oval Ground, and the ground in front of Maharaja’s College but now, the event has been scheduled only at the MRC race course, where all participants can be accommodated.

Deputy Commissioner D Randeep said that as per the advice of Guinness officials, the venue has been changed because performance of yoga at different locations will be considered as multi-venues.

The DC said that the MRC has been finalised and the proposal of the venue has been sent to the officials of the Guinness Book of World Records for their consideration. “We aim to assemble 50,000 people to perform yoga on June 21 from 7 am to 7.45 am. Till now, as many as 10,000 people have registered online,” he said.

Those interested in taking part in the event can participate by availing free tickets at the counters to be set-up near the MRC. The counters will be kept open from 5.30 am on June 21. The DC said that those who have registered online can get their tickets (hard copy) at different centres in the city from June 19 itself.

Longest chain yoga
The DC said that an attempt to enter the world records in the longest chain yoga performance will be held on Mysuru Palace premises on June 19. More than 5,000 people will perform four postures for 10 seconds each. The event is being organised as a prelude to the International Yoga Day so as to attract more participants for the main event on June 21.

Rehearsal on June 18
While the long chain yoga performance rehearsal will be held on June 17 on the Palace premises, rehearsals for the main event will be held on June 18 at MRC.
