‘Longest Chain Yoga’ rehearsal at Mysuru Palace premises, received an overwhelming response from the Mysureans on Saturday.

The practice session was held as the district administration is making an attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records on June 19, as part of the International Yoga Day.

While the district administration expected 4,000 participants, the number of performers was over double. As many as 8,500 students from 33 institutions took part in the rehearsal.

The participants performed four asanas — Veerabhadra- sana-1, Thrikonasana, Veerabhadrasana-2 and Prasaritha Padottanasana — for 30 seconds each. The rehearsal was delayed by an hour as people thronged in thousands. Due to sun stroke, a student fainted. However, the teachers immediately attended to him. According to sources, the student did not have breakfast.

Deputy Commissioner D Randeep said, “We have received good response from the students and the institutions. The rehearsal was a great success and the yoga professionals have found simple mistakes among the performers and have asked them to correct them.”

MLA M K Somashekar, University of Mysore Registrar D Bharati and Deputy Director for Tourism Janardhan were present.
