A 22-year-old woman has been booked on the charge of slapping a police constable.

The suspect, Sarika, is a commerce graduate and a resident of Fraser Town. According to police, on June 12 at around 2.40 pm, Venkatesh, a constable attached to KG Halli police station, was deputed for security on Queen’s Road as Vice President Hamid Ansari and Congress party vice-president Rahul Gandhi were in the city.

Police had announced zero traffic zone paving way for the movement of the VVIP convoy. Sarika, who came on her two-wheeler, was halted by the police. She did not stop and drove along with the VVIP convoy. When Venkatesh tried to stop her, she drove over the pavement and rammed her vehicle into a barricade and allegedly abused and slapped the constable.

High Grounds police have registered an FIR, booked Sarika under Section 353 of IPC, for assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharging his duty. The police are yet to arrest her.
