Monsoon intensifies, heavy rain lashes parts of state
Several parts of the state continued to receive widespread rain on Saturday.

Bailhongal in Belagavi district received heavy rain for more than an hour. Several roads were flooded affecting movement of vehicles while rainwater gushed into houses in low-lying areas.

The front portion of an under-construction house collapsed after heavy rain lashed Gokak town. There were no people in the vicinity when the structure came down. It rained for around one and half hours in Gadag town. The sky remained overcast in the town since morning and it began to rain towards the noon. Rainwater overflowed onto roads from clogged drains. Walls of three mud houses collapsed in Vaddarageri. Several roads in the town were under two feet of water.

Rain accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed some parts of Kalaburagi district.The downpour led to an increase in the inflow into the dams in the district. The district received an average rainfall of 5.12 mm. Sedam taluk received the highest average rainfall of 16.64 mm followed by Chincholi 5.89 mm, Chittapur 4.09 mm, Jewargi 2.83 mm and Kalaburagi 1.31 mm as per the rainfall recorded till 8.30 am on Saturday.

Madikeri received rain for an hour while there was drizzling in Bhagamandala, Talacauvery, Napoklu and Brahmagiri. Intermittent rain lashed Dakshina Kannada. There was intermittent rain in Karwar, Bhatkal and Kumta of Uttara Kannada district while it drizzled in Ankola, Mundagod, Haliyal and Siddapur. A hillock adjoining National Highway-66 collapsed near Bargi village of Kumta taluk. However, there were no causalities. The inflow into Supa reservoir stood at 1,422 cusecs. The dam had water up to 530.10 metres against the maximum level of 564 metres.

Rain coupled with thunder and lightning lashed parts of Ballari district. Huge quantity of vegetables was washed away as the shandymaidan in Hoovinahadagali was flooded. It rained for about two hours in Hosapete. Rainwater gushed into houses in low-lying areas such as Basaveshwara Extension, Chittawadagi and Siddalingappa Chowk. Moderate rain lashed several parts of Shivamogga district. Shivamogga, Sagar, Thirthahalli, Hosanagar, Shikaripur received moderate rain intermittently. In the last 24 hours, Shivamogga received rainfall of 11 mm.
