Controversial Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen's visa has been extended for one year by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday approved the proposal to extend Nasreen's visa for another year from July 23.

Nasreen, who is living in exile after she left Bangladesh in 1994 following threats to her from fundamentalists after the publication of novel 'Lajja', is a citizen of Sweden and her visa has been getting Indian visa since 2004.

She had earlier expressed her wish to stay permanently in India and had applied for permanent residency.

Officials said no decision has been taken on her application for permanent residency.

She had to Kolkata in 2007 where she was staying following violent protests by a section of Muslims against her works.
