In robbery attempts at three houses in Yelahanka New Town, an armed robber bludgeoned to death a 68-year-old man and injured a 12-year-old boy in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The deceased, Anantharamaiah, was a retired employee of Federal-Mogul Goetze India Limited and lived with his son at his house in LIC Housing Board Colony in Yelahanka New Town fourth phase. The injured has been identified as Mohammed Anees, a resident of the same area.

The robbery attempts were made between 3.30 am and 4.30 am, but no valuables were found missing from the three houses. The burglar first entered Anees’ house. He locked the bedroom where his parents were sleeping. He entered Anees’ room, but Anees woke up and raised an alarm. The burglar hit him on his head with a stone and fled. Anees was taken to a hospital and was administered first aid, police said.

He entered another house two lanes away where there were people already awake. They too raised an alarm. He escaped from there and entered Anantharamaiah’s house.

Hearing the sound, Anantharamaiah woke up and was hit on the head by the suspect with a wooden object. Sensing trouble, the burglar fled the spot. Anantharamaiah died of excessive bleeding.

The Yelahanka New Town police have lodged two separate complaints. The burglar has been booked for murder, attempt to murder and attempt to rob. “He is said to be aged between 30 and 35 years. We will nab him soon,” said P S Harsha, DCP northeast division.
