Loan waiver benefits only a few: HDK

Janata Dal (S) state president H D Kumaraswamy said the state government should increase the amount of farm loan waiver as the waiver of Rs 50,000 will not benefit many farmers.

Speaking to reporters at Athani here on Wednesday, Kumaraswamy said other states have waived loans up to Rs 2 lakh and the state government, headed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, should also consider the same options for the farmers if it wants to relieve the farmers from the pressure of debt.

“The government has waived loans availed from cooperatives by the farmers. We had demanded the complete loan waiver. But the government has announced waiver of loan amount of Rs 50,000. Farmers from the state too should get loan waivers on par with other states,” he said.
