JOIN USRowdy Palani chased, hacked to death
A history-sheeter was chased and hacked to death on Friday morning at Bagalur Layout in KG Halli. The deceased is Palani alias Layout Palani, a resident of KG Halli, said the police.
Palani was released from the Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, about two weeks ago. The police suspect the involvement of Mahesh, also a history-sheeter, and his associates in Palani’s murder.
He was going to a nearby tea stall around 7 am when the murder took place.“Four men on two bikes intercepted him before he reached the tea stall,” said the police inspector. They brandished lethal weapons and tried to attack him. “Palani started running. However, the suspects chased him and hacked him. He was killed on the spot due to severe injuries,” added the inspector.
The assailants were wearing helmets. They damaged a few CCTV cameras in the locality and fled the spot.
Based on alerts by locals, the police reached the spot and shifted him to a nearby hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival. An active member in the underworld for the past two decades, Palani was involved in more than 18 cases, including murder, extortion, robbery and dacoity.
The police had arrested him over half a dozen times, but he came out on bail each time and continued his activities. The police had even booked him under the Goonda Act as he had failed to reform himself.
Another rowdy named Palani was hogging the limelight in the underworld in 2007. Layout Palani wanted to dominate the underworld. Along with his 20 associates, he barged into Hosmat Hospital where Palani was being treated and hacked him to death. Later, the police arrested Layout Palani.
He was partnering the real estate business with Mahesh a few years ago. The partnership ended due to financial disputes. Mahesh had made an unsuccessful attempt to kill Palani. Layout Palani had survived a bid on his life about two years ago after he was stabbed. The attack was suspected to have been carried out by Mahesh. The duo decided to sink their differences after the intervention of their aides. However, they continued to nurse grudges against each other, added the police.
