BSNL 3G service sees good response in State

The latest offering from BSNL, one of the two providers of 3G servicein India, apart from better voice service provides much faster internet connection on mobiles.

Riding on 3G, BSNL gives several options including faster data and video services, video calls, video streaming applications such as live TV, movie downloads etc. The company has planned additional services like video on demand, games on demand, music, m-commerce, multimedia, telemedicine, education and e-governance for its users.

 According to senior BSNL officials, it has already invested more than Rs 600 crore for 3G in Karnataka circle, and the service has helped it in increasing its subscriber base in Bangalore telecom district.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, BSNL Bangalore Telecom District Principal General Manager Shubhendu Ghosh said, “3G technology offers mobile users any time any where internet, television and games. High speed data transfer and high quality voice has created a real transformation.”

The 3G service started on February 19, 2010 currently has a user base of more than 27,000 connections and out of which 8,000 are newer customers and remaining who upgraded from their 2G service to advanced 3G service.

Asked about the break-up of 3G user base Ghosh said, “Our subscriber base in landline, broadband and mobile has gone up significantly. The majority of users for 3G are from corporates and young population in the City.”

BSNL Deputy General Manager (consumer mobility sales) Sanjeev Sharma added “video and other attractive features attract more youth. Mobile TV is an attractive feature we offer with more than 40 channels on different subscription models.”

To take the 3G experience to more numbers, the company last week has partnered with Nokia, where-in Nokia will sell a BSNL 3G SIM with all its 3G and some 2G phone models as a bundled offer.
