63 dengue cases reported in Hassan district since June 10

Cases of dengue, chikungunya and viral fever are on the rise across the district. As many as 63 cases of dengue have been reported in the last 20 days.

The officials of the Health and Family Welfare department are spreading awareness about maintaining cleanliness and hygiene across the district. The hospitals, including the District Hospital, Janapriya Hospital, NDRK Hospital and Mangala Hospital, have been receiving the highest number of patients.

According to the sources in the Health department, a total of 63 dengue cases have been reported in the district between June 10 and June 30. From January till date, as many as 78 dengue cases, 18 chikungunya and one case of malaria have been reported. However, no deaths have been reported in the district due to these diseases. Last year, a total of 263 cases of dengue were reported.

The number of viral fever cases is high in Bucchanakoppal of Arsikere taluk, Arkalgud, Gollarakoppal, Idhalli, Matigatta in Holenarasipur taluk. In Hassan taluk alone, 37 dengue cases have been reported. Similarly, 9, 8 and 7 cases have been reported from Channarayapatna, Belur and Holenarasipur taluks respectively. Five cases each in Alur, Arasikere and Arkalgud and two in Sakleshpur taluk were reported.

District Health Officer Dr R Venkatesh said that as many as 300 health assistants have been deputed to conduct the survey. We have stored enough medicines at the primary healthcare centres and at hospitals to treat the patients.

“Fever is on the rise due to weather changes and lack of hygiene. We have instructed the authorities concerned to maintain cleanliness to avoid the spread of disease,” the DHO said.

The DHO urged the people to visit government hospitals if they suffer from fever.
