Angry customers and local residents protested in front of a popular restaurant in Devanahalli, northBengaluru, after they discovered that the water used by the eatery for cooking food was sourced from a sump where the body of one of the waiters was rotting for several days.

The deceased is Krishna (30). The restaurant, Shanthi Sagar Hotel, is located close to the bus stand in Devanahalli.

According to police, Krishna had gone missing on Tuesday night, and his body’s was found floating in the sump on Thursday evening. Until then, the restaurant was drawing water from the same sump for potable purposes. Krishna’s body was discovered by his colleague when he went to check the water level in the sump.

The news spread like wildfire. Angry customers and local residents crowded the hotel and protested against the hotel staff for their negligence. Some of them even tried to vandalise the hotel property. But police rushed to the spot and dispersed the crowd. They then took Krishna’s body to hospital for post-mortem.

Police suspect that Krishna either accidentally fell into the sump at night or committed suicide. “We are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death before taking action against the hotel management,” a senior police officer said.
