Lalit Ashok tweaks entry to stay 'high'

The Lalit Ashok on Kumara Krupa Road has changed the entrance to the hotel, presumably to dodge the Supreme Court’s ban on serving alcohol within 500 metres of national highways.

A low compound wall has been built in front of the main entrance gate on Kumara Krupa Road to stretch the hotel’s distance from the highway. Visitors now have to enter the hotel through the gate next to ‘Krishna,’ the official residence of the chief minister.

DH was unable to contact the general manager for a response. However, a staff member said that they were not serving alcohol as of now and expect to resume the service on Friday.

Deputy Commissioner of the Excise Department for Bengaluru (North) K S Murali said the hotel was within 500 metres of the National Highways 4 and 7, which overlap from General Post Office to Sankey Road. “They will not be able to sell liquor. As of Saturday, they had not applied for a renewal of licence. I am not aware of the change of entrance,” he said.
