Hyderabad drug racket: One more arrested, 26 colleges, schools, cautioned

The excise department of Telangana has so far arrested 8 persons in connection with the massive drug racket it has unearthed few days ago. The drug mafia consisting mostly former drug addicts has enslaved more than 1000 young men and women many in 8 and 9 standards to high end narcotics it has imported from other countries. One Benden Ben, an hotelier was arrested on Wednesday.


The department also has sent advisories to some of the very prominent educational institutions, and parents of all the students spreading shock waves across the state capital. Dr Akun Sabharwal, Director Excise and Prohibition Department in his letter have urged schools to sensitize their students and teachers about the issue of substance abuse. “Watch out for erratic, deviant behavior in students and monitor schools vicinity for shops etc,” the letter said. The officials also advised parents not to entrust credit or debit cards to their wards.


“The modus operandi is free supply of LSD for a week through agents in schools and colleges and then once the students are hooked to the drug, they charge money,” an Special Investigation Team officer said adding that the mobile phones confiscated from the culprits are still receiving messages for drugs from desperate students. The department which has confirmed the role of few Tollywood figures in the racket has not yet disclosed their names.


The department on its part will be organizing an orientation programme for students and managements of 86 schools in the city on 14 July and issued a toll free number to pass on any information about drugs and assured that the caller’s identity will be protected.


Following is the list of some  of the schools and colleges under the radar of the E and P department: Jubilee public school, Indus International school, Oakridge International school, Chirec Public school, Rockwell International school, Glendale, Aghakhan International School, Delhi Public School, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Hyderabad Public School, Nasr school, Sanghamitra Public school, Srinidhi International, Silver oaks , central School Secunderabad, Akhsara International school, Geetanjali public school, Johnson Grammar schools and DAV Public school.


Colleges: CBIT , Nizam College, GRIET, MGIT, Arora, St Mary, AV College, Srinidhi , St Joseph, ICFAI, Hyderabad Business School, Bhavan’s New Science College, St Francis and Villa Mary women’s college.
