Metro staff protest 'high-handedness'
Hundreds of Namma Metro employees sat on a silent protest from afternoon till late in the night outside the administrative block of the BMRCL in Baiyappanahalli, saying they were now scared of going to work.

“We are proud to be part of Metro. But what should we do when we are not safe in our own workplace? The unruly behaviour of KSISF personnel is not new. We brought the matter to the notice of the management at least three times,” a visibly shaken senior staffer told Deccan Herald.

The protest came after a station controller of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) was assaulted by a Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF) constable guarding the Central College Metro station.

“The police picked up the station in-charge and trains ran without his supervision for nearly an hour. Though the station in-charge was not involved in the assault, he was named the prime accused. If there was an emergency, everything would have gone haywire,” another Metro staffer said on condition anonymity. DH could not reach BMRCL officials to verify the claim.

They, however, conceded that the staff at Central College Metro station should not have hit back at the constable. “This case has a background to it. KSISF personnel have misbehaved with us several times. Even after police tried to bring truce, the constable abused the staff, provoking them to retaliate,” a staffer said.
