Harikrishna Bantwal calls Rai 'Gaddafi of DK'

Last Updated 12 July 2017, 19:31 IST

Former Congress leader Harikrishna Bantwal has described district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai  “Gaddafi of Dakshina Kannada.”

“Rai is behaving as a dictator and is unfit to be a minister. He has been issuing directions to the police at his whims and fancies. In a way he is the Gaddafi of Dakshina Kannada,” Bantwal said at a press meet here on Wednesday. He accused Rai of “stifling” the voices of Congress leaders such as Shakunthala Shetty and J R Lobo.

Absence questioned

“Ramanath Rai claims himself to be a honest leader. Then why didn’t he turn up for the truth test at Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala? I had given a time of seven days. Wednesday was the ninth day,” Bantwal said. He alleged that Rai called Congress leader B Janardhana Poojary over phone on Tuesday night to prevail upon him (Bantwal) for cancelling the press meet. “But, I was determined to conduct the press meet.” Bantwal claimed that Rai wept and tendered apology to Poojary.

“Rai would better understand that by abusing Poojary, he has abused the entire Billava community. Rai has also spoken offensive about Billava Sangha. I will reveal the details in the days to come,” Bantwal said.

He called upon people to instal CCTV cameras on their premises and inform police about suspicious activities.
