Flowers of many hues at this garden

This is home to all kinds of flowers. The garden that belongs to former Parliamentarian F M Khan, seven kilometres from Madikeri, has over 40 different varieties of flowering plants, from roses to dahlias, to lillies.

The garden is a result of nearly 40 years of Khan’s passion and hard work. Khan had an excellent garden even when he was an MP based in Delhi. Senior leaders including the then president Zail Singh, prime minister Indira Gandhi are said to have visited his garden.

Today, the garden spread across an acre has as many as 700 potted plants. Anybody can walk in to enjoy the floral display. Khan even organises annual flower shows in his garden.  What draws the most attention is the 35 ft-long cactus that is part of Khan’s garden. The cactus has been around from the last 50 years, he says. Khan has grown plants even  in coconut shells, and old tyres.
