The map of the second phase of Namma Metro from Nagawara to Gottigere (Reach 6) and the underground stretch from Nagawara to Dairy Circle was released by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) on Saturday.

According to this, the Cantonment Metro station will be built 300 metres from the Bengaluru Cantonment railway station. Earlier, the Metro station was planned right next to the Cantonment railway station. It will now be built on a playground which is situated next to Abdul Bari’s Primary School between New Bamboo Bazaar Road and Dhanakoti Road. The playground belongs to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

“The earlier location for the Metro station would have taken up more space. We have now chosen the playground belonging to the BBMP. This will obviate the need to demolish buildings,” BMRCL managing director Pradeep Singh Kharola said.

At Shivajinagar, the underground Metro station will come up below the BBMP playground next to Shivajinagar bus stand. BMRCL had invited tenders for the construction as it aims to complete the project by 2020. Work has been divided into four packages. The expenditure for the project is expected to be around Rs 5,047.56 crore and BMRCL has received a temporary approval for the loan amount from European Investment Bank.

There will be seven elevated Metro stations. On the Gottigere-Nagawara route, a 7.5-km elevated route will be constructed from Gottigere to Swagath Road. The expenditure for this route will be around Rs 575.52 crore and tenders were invited for this route in March.
