Worried over the poor enrolment of youngsters in the voters’ list, BBMP officials will now go door to door and colleges to register their names.

The Palike expects the presence of 2.7 lakh young voters in the city, but so far only 27,000 youth have come forward, which has caused  concern for the BBMP. The Palike has decided to launch a special enrolment drive in colleges.

‘Only 10% enrolled’

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, BBMP commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad said there are 84.97 lakh voters in the city. The number of young voters should be 3% to 3.5% or about 2.7 lakh. “However, only 27,000 young voters have enrolled, which is only 10% of the 2.7 lakh young voters,” said Prasad.
The month-long voter enrolment drive started on July 1, officials are going to colleges asking youth to actively take part in the voter registration drive. Training has been imparted to additional district returning officers, revenue officers and assistant revenue officers to appeal to youngsters to take part in the process. These officers will distribute Form-6 to the youth to enrol them.
