Last Updated 16 July 2017, 18:43 IST
Eleven persons were injured due to stone pelting by people belonging to Hakki Pikki community in Indira Nagar layout in Kaldoddi in the taluk, on Saturday. Villagers Mamatha, Rathna, Raju, Srinivasa, Pradeep, Revanth and Kiran, who were seriously injured, have been admitted to the district hospital. A case has been registered in the rural police station and a person called Lakshmikanth has been arrested.

The people belonging
to Hakki Pikki community threw stones at the houses of the village and broke the window panes, alleging that a person called Rajesh from the village repeatedly spoke on phone with Lakshmikanth’s wife of Hakki Pikki community.  Around 15 people from the community also assaulted Rajesh when he came near Lakshmikanth’s house.

After the incident, the police took it in writing from both the parties that they will not indulge in disturbing acts.

Later, when Rajesh was not in his house, people from the Hakki Pikki community threw stones at his house and also damaged a two-wheeler belonging to Srinivas. When Rajesh’s neighbours questioned the same, it led to a tense situation.

MLA C T Ravi met the injured in the hospital on Sunday and said that the innocent people were provoked to fight with each other.

He meanwhile demanded a thorough investigation into the case. Rajesh was assaulted because he is said to have conducted a protest against drinking water issue in Kaldoddi and against the shifting of Shuddha Ganga drinking water unit.
