Dengue cases on the rise in city

Dengue cases across the city continue to soar steadily after the onset of monsoon. The city witnessed 1,600 cases of dengue since January.

“The number of cases is almost the same as last year. There is nothing to worry. We are taking all precautions to control the spread,” said Dr Naveen Kumar, nodal officer for National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP).

The state registered 3,218 cases of dengue since January this year till July. July alone witnessed more than 500 cases. The helpline 104 dedicated for dengue fever received around 5,000 calls since July 12. The death toll due to dengue in the state is five. He said precautionary steps like house to house survey and fogging is being regularly conducted to control mosquito breeding.

Doctors from various private hospitals said they have been seeing many cases of viral fever with dengue like symptoms.
