Govt pays BWSSB for free water supply scheme

The state government has issued an order for supply of free drinking water to slum dwellers in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in his budget speech, had promised to supply 10,000 litres of free drinking water a month to slum dwellers living in 20x30 feet shelters. Following this, the urban development department issued orders for a one-time payment of Rs 35.71 crore to BWSSB towards the cost for 52,000 connections and annual water bills starting from March 2017. The government also waived the interest on the principal amount.

According to this, the government will pay Rs 23.11 crore to BWSSB for providing connections and Rs 12.60 crore as running bill from March 2017 at Rs 1.05 crore a month for one year.
