Kodagu gears up for census

 The house census will be held between April 15 and June 1 in Kodagu. The population census will be held in February 2011.

Speaking to presspersons, DC K H Ashwathanarayana Gowda said that the district is planning to prepare the National Population Register (NPR) with the 2011 Census, which will have specified characteristics of each individual, including photograph and finger biometrics. The register will have complete details of the individual, address, filled in 35 columns.

The complete details will be collected from every Indian. This will also helpful in distributing identity card. All those who are above 15 years, thumb impression will be taken. This will help in avoiding a person having more than one identity card. Census process will be carried out in 1,091 blocks in Kodagu. A total of 1,152 enumerators and 196 supervisors have been deployed for census. A total of 23 trainers have already provided training to the enumerators at various phases, the DC informed.

In Madikeri
The census process will be carried out in 233 blocks in Madikeri taluk. One block will have 120 houses with a population of around 450 to 600. The blocks have been divided based on house number and population, said Tahsildar Devaraju. Taluk will have 251 enumerators and 43 supervisors. The enumerators of Madikeri and Sampaje hobli are getting trained in Old Fort premises.
The enumerators of Napoklu hobli will be given training at Napoklu GMP School on April 8 and 9. The enumerators of Bhagamandala hobli will be trained on April 9 and 10. The final phase of training will be given on April 13.

Somwarpet taluk
Census process will be carried out in 393 blocks. There are 394 enumerators and 63 supervisors. Similarly, Virajpet taluk has 325 blocks and 357 enumerators and 63 supervisors. Madikeri town will have 52 blocks, 57 enumerators and 10 supervisors. Somwarpet town will have 13 blocks with 15 enumerators and 3 supervisors.
