Go after peddlers, be kind to addicts: Telangana CM

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao who held a high level meeting on the ongoing investigation on Drug racket in state capital has made it clear that the investigation team can’t treat victims of drug addiction at par with the perpetrators. He also denied reports that drug menace is rampant in the state. The Chief Minister also allayed fears of the Tollywood  that the industry is not at all singled out.

“When compared to several other states the drug problem is minuscule in the state. However our efforts must be to shut down all the entry points for drugs and make our state drug free,” KCR advised the officers. He made it clear that Telangana government will be ruthless in punishing the drug mafia but will be sympathetic towards those who got addicted to the narcotic substances. “All the addicts will be treated as victims,” he reiterated.

DGP Anurag Sharma, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police Mahender Reddy, Excise Commissioner Chandravadan, Intelligence IG Naveen Chand, and Enforcement Director Akun Sabharwal were among the officers that attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, Tollywood Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja attended questioning by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) here on Friday about his connection with the underground drug mafia. The SIT team found Ravi Teja's name in the call list of drug peddler Calvin. The officers grilled him for almost six and half hours, but refrained from taking taken blood samples from the actor.

The hero whose films have been bombing at the box office in recent years was in some foreign location shooting for his latest flick when the news of drug bust broke. He returned here two days ago attend the questioning. Ravi Teja’s driver Srinivasa Rao will be questioned on Saturday.
