'Metro Man'Sreedharan admitted to hospital for chest pain

Sreedharan (77), Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, was admitted to the hospital at around 9.00 AM after he complained of "severe chest pain", metro officials said.

Sreedharan complained of chest pain when he was at the Delhi Airport, from where he was to fly to Kolkata for official work."Sreedharan was admitted to the Coronary Intensive Care after he complained of severe chest pain.

"He was immediately investigated and is currently being actively managed for his ailment in the Coronary Intensive Care," the statement said.A multi-disciplinary team of doctors is monitoring his progress, the statement said.

DMRC officials said his condition was stable and some senior officials of the organisation were able to meet him at the hospital."While he was in the bus that was taking him to the runway, he complained of chest pain and called one of his aides, who helped in getting him to the Apollo Hospital unit in the Airport premises. He was given first aid there and was shifted to the main hospital," the sources said.

Sreedharan has become synonymous with the modern rapid transit system that helped ease transportation woes in the national capital.The soft-spoken 'Metro Man' is credited with completion of several of the Delhi Metro projects within budget and ahead of schedule.
