Following a rap by the Comptroller and Auditor General, the railways is removing blankets from the air-conditioned coaches and is instead regulating the temperature to tolerable levels.

A railway official on Tuesday said the no-blanket rule is being implemented in the third AC coaches of the Jammu Mail on pilot basis. It would be extended to other trains after studying the outcome.

The railways is using thermal control to regulate the temperature up to 25 degrees in the third AC coaches of the Delhi-Jammu train. Passengers would need blanket for the current temperature levels of 19 degrees in the AC coaches.

The CAG recently pulled up the railways for providing dirty blankets in the AC coaches. It would replace blankets with cotton sheets that should be enough at the adjusted temperature levels.
