27 pc increase in plan outlay for Kodagu dist

The credit plan was launched at the district-level review meeting held here on Wednesday. Like every year, this year also credit plan gives emphasis to agriculture sector. A sum of 985 crore has been earmarked for agriculture. The credit plan was released by Zilla Panchayat CEO Mirja Akbarulla.

The priority sector credit with an outlay of Rs 1,182 crore constitute 89 per cent of the plan, said Lead Bank Manager G Arunachala Sharma. Out of which agriculture gets a major share of Rs 985 crore which constitute 74 per cent of the plan. As per the direction of Central government and Reserve Bank of India, additional 30 per cent has been earmarked for agriculture sector.

In 2010-11, the outlay for industry is Rs 15 crore. This is an increase by 18 per cent compared to last year.
The district has 133 branches of 21 banks. The credit has been distributed among three taluks viz Madikeri taluk—Rs 459 crore, Virajpet taluk—Rs 505 crore and Somwarpet taluk—Rs 362 crore.
He said out of the plan, commercial banks contribute Rs 879 crore (66 per cent) followed by Cooperative Bank with Rs 352 crore (27 per cent), rural banks Rs 45 crore (4 per cent).

Rs 705 crore has been earmaked for crop loan, Rs 38 crore for irrigation, Rs 107 crore for horticulture, Rs 46 crore for farm equipments, Rs 27 crore for other agriculture activities, Rs 12 crore for animal husbandry. Rs 212 crore has been earmarked for various schemes of the Central and state governments.  Sharma said the banks have been achieveing 100 per cent target for the last three to four years. However, the progress had declined in 2009-10 owing to the failure of the total implementation of loan waiver scheme.
Prizes were distributed to the wonners of quiz on financial inclusion organised by Lead Bank in association with Reserve Bank. Raitha Koota of Kakkabbe Corporation Bank won the award at the state-level instituted by NABARD.

Corporation Bank Hassan division Deputy General Manager P V Narasimha Rao weclomed the gathering while Reserve Bank Assistant General Manager S N Karjagi, NABARD Assistant General Manager Shivaramakrishnan and others were present.
