The mishap occurred at the Channabasaveshwara ginning factory owned by Bharatlal Jain. The reason for the fire is still not known.
According to sources, the bales caught fire all of a sudden in the afternoon and within half an hour most of the bales were destroyed. Two fire fighter vans belonging to the district fire fighting force and one each from Byadagi and Shiggaon reached the spot immediately on receiving the information.
