Congress party workers on Saturday staged a protest condemning the attack on the cavalcade of AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi during his visit to flood hit Gujarat on Friday.

Mocking caricatures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah adorned the banner carried by the party workers.

The protest organised by the workers of block Congress, youth wing and Rahul Gandhi Brigade had lent a creative touch to the banner. They blamed the attack on the Rahul Gandhi scion with the caricatures of a sword-wielding Modi, astride a horse on one side and a gun-totting Amit Shah on the other side, and highlighted a line of ‘Gujarat BJP Goonda Sarkar’ in red.

District Congress Committee president Dr D L Vijaykumar alleged that the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre is misusing power to target Congress leaders. “The recent attack on the motorcade of Rahul Gandhi that was stoned is the failure of the centre in giving a protection to the latter,” he said.

The Union home minister Rajnath Singh should tender apology to Rahul Gandhi, he demanded.

B M Sandeep, Panchayat Raj wing state convener, said “The NDA government is also indulging in troubling the rivals through income tax raids and also enforcement directorate.”

Former MLC Gayatri Shanthegowda, block Congress president H P Manjegowda, minorities wing president Nissar Ahmed and Youth Congress district unit president K V Shivakumar were present.
