Programmes launched for conservation of medicinal plants

Staff of the Forest Department, representatives of forest committees and local organisations will be involved to avoid smuggling of medicinal plants.
Task Force chairman Ananth Hegde Ashisar, in a press conference in Bangalore on Wednesday, said a consultation meeting with the objective of conserving medicinal plants was held in Hassan recently. A similar meeting would be convened in Bangalore on Thursday.

As many as 13 medicinal conservation areas, spread across the State, have been identified.
The Task Force would conduct programmes to spread awareness on medicinal plants among the public.

A database of plants would also be prepared, he added.
