Hold Central competitive exams in Kannada too, says KDA

The Kannada Development Authority (KDA) has sought Central recruiting agencies like UPSC to conduct all competitive examinations at the national level in Kannada in the state.

In a letter to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar and Minister of State for Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances Jitendra Singh, KDA chairman S G Siddaramaiah said, “The non-provision of question papers in all indigenous Indian languages as mentioned in Schedule VII of the Constitution, is proving to be detrimental to the interests of the people of various states and regions. This should be looked at. Whenever recruitment to any of the posts of Central or semi-government or public sector establishments happens, candidates should be allowed to choose question papers and answers in any of the languages mentioned in the Constitution.”

The KDA chairman said that on closer analysis of 59 students who successfully cleared competitive exams in Kannada, a few interesting facts had surfaced. Out of the 59 students, parents of 16 were farmers while 14 had a business or were working in the private sector and 19 of them had finished their secondary schooling in rural areas. This implies that trends are changing with UPSC’s constant urge for proactive reforms.
