She may be just a film old in the industry, but producer Prerna Arora is quite confident about her future. She’s awaiting the release of ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ while her other films in the pipeline.

The busy bee chats with Anila Kurian about her latest film and other projects.

How does it feel to be one of the youngest producers in Bollywood?

It feels like an achievement. I’m on my second film in two years and it’s great to know that my work is being recognised.

Your father is an agriculturist and your grandfather owned a circus. How did you come into the industry?

I was always overwhelmed by this world and wanted to be a part of the creation. I’ve only read about great producers and how they make things happen. Producing a film is like creating a new world, a one person’s thought. It’s difficult but the challenge is the rush I love.

How’s an average day in your life?

I’m always on the phone or in a meeting! I don’t really need to go to the gym; talking on the phone is a good enough workout for me (laughs).

How is it to produce a film like ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’?

I have a great sense of satisfaction working for a film that has a superstar like Akshay Kumar. The content is brilliant and I couldn’t be happier.

What else is there in your kitty?

I have ‘Fanney Khan’ featuring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anil Kapoor, John Abraham’s ‘Pokhran’, ‘Pari’ with Anushka Sharma and Abhishek Kapoor’s ‘Kedarnath’.

Is it difficult to pitch stories to sponsors nowadays?

To be honest, the content sells itself. When you have a good film and you know the audience will enjoy it, you don’t have to try hard.

Anything about the industry that you don’t like?

Producers don’t get the respect they deserve. If it weren’t for us, there wouldn’t be any films to watch. Also, with nepotism being the hot topic, people should realise that new comers also need support.

Be kind and if someone is talented, passionate and dedicated, give them a chance to prove themselves.

Do you ever take a break?

I took a break around New Year only because everyone else was away. I’m not interested in taking a vacation.

Are you ever scared of feeling worn out?

Not at all. I know that I will keep adapting to new things and keep moving forward. I did my homework before joining the industry. I may not know how much money my films will make but I know the content will work.

What else are you passionate about?

I am a shopaholic. I love Dior, Gucci and Chanel not just because of their designs but for the people who make that world happen. The creators are no more but their works still live on.

So what do you want to be remembered as?

A symbol of quality and intelligence.
