In a heart-wrenching accident, a two-year-old girl died after coming under the bus of her sister’s school outside their house in Seegehalli, on Tuesday.

Joyce Christina ran out of home to embrace her elder sister Lydia Esther after she came back from school. The driver didn’t notice Christina crossing the road as the bus pulled in, Naveen Kumar, an eyewitness, told DH.

The bus belonging to Shastry Memorial School and PU College pulled into 1st Main, 1st Cross, Mallappa Layout, around 3.30 pm to drop off Esther, an LKG student. As Esther got off the bus, an excited Christina ran towards her from the opposite side of the road. The girl came in the front of the bus which had started to move by then. The driver failed to notice Christina and ran over her. The girl came under the front wheel of the bus and died on the spot. The girls’ mother was busy with household chores when the accident unfolded.

Esther let out a loud scream seeing Christina in a pool of blood. Other children got off the bus and also started crying. Neighbours rushed to the accident spot and took the girl to a nearby hospital but it was too late. Christina was declared brought dead. The jurisdictional KR Puram traffic police also rushed to the spot and detained the bus driver whom the residents had caught by then. A case of accidental death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered and further investigation is under way.

The accident left the family numb with disbelief. Christina was looking forward to her second birthday on August 28. Esther had celebrated her birthday just last Sunday, the girls’ uncle Santhosh said.  The girls’ father Yeshu R is a real estate agent from KGF while mother Asha is a home-maker.
