Last Updated 08 August 2017, 20:54 IST

The members of Sarjapur Residents’ Welfare Association are planning to conduct a walk on August 12 to create awareness about the transplantation of the trees on ITPL to Kadugodi stretch. As the works for the second phase of Metro is about to begin, about 60 trees will be cut along the line.

Joy V R, secretary of the association, said, “We understand that the Metro serves a larger purpose and helps in resolving the traffic problems along with reducing pollution. But at the same time, there has to be a balance with respect to nature. Cutting trees is not the only solution. The transplantation of trees is possible and we are conducting an awareness walk just to create awareness among the government officials that they need not cut the tree but transplant them from one place to the other and it will bloom.”

Joy also said that if the government officials still go ahead and cut the trees, then the members of the association will try to protect as many trees as possible by transplanting through crowd funding. The awareness walk will be held from ITPL to Hope Farm in Whitefield.
