Uphold and safeguard values of an ideal India: RS resolution

Rajya Sabha MPs on Wednesday resolved themselves to rededicate for building a self reliant, inclusive, secular and democratic India on the occasion of 75th anniversary of Quit India movement.
 
From Leader of House Arun Jaitley to Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad, all MPs spoke on the need for working together though some opposition leaders used the opportunity to target ruling BJP.
 
After two hours of discussion in Rajya Sabha, the House adopted a resolution unanimously to "rededicate ourselves to build India whixh is self reliant, inclusive, secular and democratic".
 
The resolution, read out by Chairman Hamid Ansari, said they pledge to uphold and safguard the values of an ideal India while recalling the sacrifices made by numerous Indians who defied the brutal repression of British forces and shook the foundation of British rule.
 
Initiating the discussion, Jaitley said there are threats to country's internal security and there was a need for everyone to soeak in one voice.
 
Acknowledging that for the past years we are trying strengthen democracy, he said there is a constant tussle between judiciary and executive and one should not cross thr line. "There should be a Lakshman Rekha, whuch at times appears to be blurring," he said.
 
Azad referred to the Gujarat Rajya Sabha election results without elaborating when he said, "last night was eventful like the night of 8 August 1942. I don't want to go into details," he said as Congress candidate Ahmed Patel managed to win a thrilling contest against BJP.
 
He said toxaytge threat is within our thinking and that shoyld change.
 
CPI(M) MP Sitaram Yechury questioned the resolve of the government in fighting communalism and hardships faced by peiple.
 
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Communalism Quit India. Are we doing enough to achieve that?" he said adding one should liberate themselves from the darkness i5f past and move forward.
 
Trinamool Congress' Sukhendu Sekhar Roy said BJP was following the Britisher's divide and rule policy. "BJP also doing the same. They shoyld quit India," he said.
