'I would love to work in a biopic'

Actor Suraj Gowda is on a happy high. And why not? His last film ‘Siliconn City’ had won him much appreciation. The actor will soon be seen in a bilingual movie which will be called ‘Snehave Preethi’ in Kannada and ‘Two Friends’ in Telugu. ‘In a candid chat with Tini Sara Anien, the artiste talks about the project and more.

What are you working on right now?
I am concentrating on the bilingual at the moment. Almost 80 percent of the shoot is done and I am very excited.

How did this project happen?
The director, G L B Srinivas saw my performance in ‘Siliconn City’ and he was impressed by what he saw. I liked the project because the Telugu film team wanted a Kannada actor to play the lead role. I am glad that someone from outside wanted to tap the talent here.

Tell us more about the project.
It is a commercial movie. The story is a battle between friendship and love. It has romance, dance and action. The audience will get to see a college love story with all the commercial elements required. It is a great script.

How different is this role?
Maybe because of my looks, most movie-goers believe that I’m a chocolate hero. I am doing action for the first time with this project. I was into mixed martial arts for years and I feel action scenes are easy to do.

How was it shooting for action sequences?
Thriller Manju worked with me on my scenes and even he was pleasantly surprised that I could work easily in those scenes. He was really happy and didn’t expect me to do this well. I grew up watching action films of Darshan, Sudeep and Puneeth Rajkumar. Action is something that I always wanted to do.

Are you a director’s actor?
Yes. I like to be a director’s actor so that I don’t have to give my ideas. But if and when it is required, I do chip in with my views.

A role you want to do...
I don’t want to be predictable. I played a chocolate boy in ‘Maduveya Mamatheya Kareyole’, a psychopath in ‘Kahi’ and a varied role in ‘Siliconn City’. I want to do different kinds of roles. I would love to work in a biopic some day.

What goes through your mind when you are in front of the camera?
I am friends with the camera. The adrenaline rush I get when I am in front of the camera cannot be explained. I am happiest when I am shooting.

How’s life after ‘Siliconn City’?
I’m thankful that ‘Siliconn City’ got me a lot of attention. I realise that the audience has certain expectations from me. I will keep striving for that.
