Tarun Vijay, who initiated the campaign, said that being in the armed forces makes one more sensitive to human values. “Our labs in universities, class rooms and study sessions, and our democracy function because there is a soldier at Sikkim and Siachen guarding these freedoms. So, we are requesting universities and colleges to have the portraits of our heroes on their campuses to inspire students,” he said.

The Governor handed over CDs with the pictures to create the ‘Wall of Heroes’ to the heads of institutions present at the event. The initiative was launched by Union Human Resources Development minister Prakash Javadekar in May and these portraits have already been put up in several colleges in the country.
