3 newborns die in 72 hours at govt hospital

Three newborns died in 72 hours at SNR district hospital in Kolar, creating panic among patients visiting the state-run health facility.

One of Reddamma’s three male babies was underweight. It had respiratory problems and did not respond to the treatment and passed away on Tuesday. Shymala had given birth to twins at a hospital in Chintamani of Chikkaballapur district. Since one of them had birth defect, the family members had brought the baby to SNR hospital where it died on Monday. Sowmya had given birth to a baby with an underdeveloped brain. It died on Sunday.

District surgeon Dr Shivakumar said death of babies due to birth defect was normal.

“The deaths are not due to medical negligence or lack of facilities.”
