1.6m passengers fly international from KIA in 6 months

Dubai and Singapore were the top international destinations for air passengers from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) from January to June, this year. A total of 3,81,304 people boarded flights to Dubai while 1,94,201 passengers headed to Singapore during the first half of 2017.

Director General Civil Aviation (DGCA) statistics showed that a total of 16,73,508 international passengers transited through KIA. The daily international passenger numbers between January and June averaged 9,245.

On average, 8,744 passengers took international flights from KIA daily, from January to March. This number went up to 9,849 between April and June. Besides Dubai and Singapore, passengers also flocked in big numbers to the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi. As many as 1,42,281 travellers transited through KIA during the first half of the year, while Frankfurt, Germany, had 1,09,014 passengers from Bengaluru airport.

Other key international destinations for flights from KIA were Bangkok (92,923 passengers), Doha (94,081), Colombo (92,629), London (83,071), Muscat (82,618), Kuala Lumpur (78,860), Paris (70,083), Hong Kong (69,407), Sharjah (51,823) and Jeddah (30,433).

An overwhelming trend was the dominance of passengers headed to West Asia, particularly the United Arab Emirates. A whopping 5,75,408 travellers were bound for the Emirates of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah during the six-month period.

The total number of passengers to other West Asian cities, including Doha, Jeddah, Kuwait City, Muscat, Riyadh and Madina stood at 2,38,897.
