The Supreme Court banned the practice of triple talaq with a 3:2 majority, bringing in a rush of relief to Muslim women who had been subject to the practice for years and was hailed as a significant step in gender equality.
Not one to let go of the opportunity to thank the SC for the verdict, Mohammad Kafi took to twitter, hailing the decision. In the tweet, Kaif said that the decision to declare triple talaq unconstitutional was 'welcome' and would help Muslim women earn security and help gender equality.
Welcome decision by Supreme Court to declare #TripleTalaq unconstitutional. Will give Muslim women security. Gender justice is much needed

As is the case when any famous personality puts forth their opinion on a matter, trolls descended on the cricketer's handle and tweet, with largely mixed responses to the tweet.
One user attempted to equate the SC order against triple talaq with the Vande Mataram issue
SC says #TripleTalaq is against Quran so how about saying Vande Mataram that is also against basic Quran of There is no God but Allah

While another claimed that women are most secure in Islam

And another asking if Kaif had read Quran, saying if he had, he'd know what gender equality is:
Have you read Qaran? then you would have understand what is gender justice and women security.

While the general set of responses was similar in that the users mocked Kaif for not following the Quran and all, some tweets were supportive of him, such as this one:
Every time I see your tweets on various issues, I see you are open, modern, liberal.
