Cultural diversity must be showcased in Dasara procession: Umashree

Minister for Kannada and Culture Umashree directed officials to ensure that cultural diversity is showcased in the procession for the Dasara Jamboo Savari scheduled for September 30.

The minister was addressing officials during a meeting of Dasara procession and Cultural Sub-Committee at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Saturday.
“The art troupes that participate in the procession should be diverse and the attire of artistes should be attractive for tourists. Officials should also organise a rehearsal for the artistes. Only 42 tableaux should be allowed in the procession. Ensure adequate drinking water and food for the artistes,” she said.
The minister said that the cultural events in front of the Mysuru Palace should be exceptionally good and the officials concerned should follow norms while selecting art troupes.
“Provide opportunities for programmes related to women and children. Nationally and internationally recognised artistes will be present in the programmes so they should be identified and feted. In addition, the stages should be well designed and there should be no confusion among visitors as well as participants about the venues of the programmes,” she said.

Kannada and Culture Assistant Director H Channappa said that the officials are trying to rope in international troupes to participate in the procession and five nationally accredited teams have agreed to participate.

In the cultural events, 40% of the programmes are reserved for regional teams, 35%, 15% and 10% programmes for state, national and international accredited teams and artistes respectively. More than 250 applications have been received till date, he said.

City Police Commissioner Dr A S Rao, DC D Randeep, Kannada and Culture Director N Vishu Kumar, Food and Civil Supplies Senior Deputy Director K Rameshwarappa, Deputy Commissioner of Police Vikram Amte, Women and Child Welfare Development Deputy Director K Radha and Palace Board Deputy Director T S Subramanya were present.
