In fact, Palemar had openly expressed his inability to function as the district-in-charge Minister of Kodagu as he already holds the portfolio of district-in-charge minister for Dakshina Kannada.

However, owing to some political reason, Palemar was retained as the District-in-Charge Minister. In the backdrop of change in District-in-Charge Ministers of majority of the districts, Minister M P Renukacharya has been appointed as the District-in-Charge Minister of Kodagu.
The people of the region have high expectations from the new District-in-Charge Minister.
Being in Dakshina Kannada, Palemar used to visit Kodagu once in three to four months.
Now the citizens are wondering how many visits the new Minister M P Renukacharya will make, who hails from Davangere.

Kodagu is geographically a unique land. As a result, the problems facing the district is also different from other districts. The Minister will have to take some time to understand the problems. District-in-Charge Minister will require more time to study the issue of jamma bane, wild elephant menace, demand for coffee package, and several projects which are pending.

Alangooru Srinivas had brought rain compensation to the district by atleast threatening to tender his resignation. However, Ramachandra Gowda has only spoken of airport, railway connectivity and promotion of tourism in the district.

After M C Nanaiah and M M Nanaiah, no one from Kodagu became District-in-Charge Ministers. In the next Cabinet reshuffle, if Kodagu MLA gets a ministerial berth, then the situation of having an outsider as a District-in-Charge Minister can be avoided.

However, appointing B R Jayaramaraje Urs as the District-in-Charge Secretary of Kodagu is a good move as Urs has the experience of serving Kodagu as DC, it is said.
