A  34-year-old man kidnapped a girl and raped her after forcibly 'marrying' the 20-year-old at his house in Agrahara Dasarahalli on Magadi Road in the city.

The police said Santosh, who works in a dry cleaning shop, kidnapped his neighbour, forcefully tied her a mangalsutra and raped her on Thursday night. The incident came to light on Friday.

According to a complaint filed by the girl’s parents with the Magadi Road police, Santosh wanted to marry their daughter and had been harassing the family for a long time. The girl’s parents came to know that Santosh was already married with two children. Despite the girl and her parents telling Santosh to drop the idea, he kept harassing them.

On Thursday night, the victim, who used to sleep at her grandmother’s house a few buildings away, left her home around 10 pm. When she was walking to her grandmother’s house, Santosh dragged her into his house and tied her a 'mangalsutra.' He then told her that she was his wife and raped her. Later, he locked her in a room in his house the whole night, the police said.

Meanwhile, victim’s grandmother grew anxious as the girl did not come home. She went to the victim's house to enquire about her and found that she was not there.

“Her parents waited for her the whole night. On Friday morning, they grew suspicious that Santosh may be involved in her disappearance. They went to his house and found the girl locked up inside a room,” a police officer said.

The girl was rescued and a complaint was filed with the police on Friday. The police arrested Santosh on charges of abduction, assault on a woman with an intention to outrage her modesty and rape, according to DCP (West), M N Anucheth.
