A decision to this effect was taken at the taluk committee meeting of the Action Committee for Permanent Irrigation Scheme here on Saturday. Over 10,000 people are expected to participate in the rally.

Leaders who took part in the meeting said  Kolar and Chikkkaballapur districts do not have any river. Permanent irrigation projects are the only hope for these dry districts. The demands of these areas to the government over the years have fallen on deaf ears. Hence, it has been decided to draw the government’s attention towards the plight of the people through a massive rally.

Though the Paramashivaiah report was for providing permanent solution to the water problem in these areas, some vested interests have been objecting to the implementation of the report. At a time when report of ISRO’s aerial survey is awaited. some people have been making negative remarks on the project. This must stop, the leaders opined.
They urged other leaders to make people aware about the need for permanent irrigation project in the district. This will help generate good support for the struggle, they added.
They requested people not to use any political party symbol or flag during the rally on April 21. Only pictures of Paramashivaiah and Sir M Visvesvaraya should be used.
It was also decided to block National Highway 7 on the outskirts of the town to draw the attention of the Centre and the State government.

MLA K P Bachegowda, farmer leaders Yaluvahalli N Ramesh, P N Keshavareddy, K V Nagaraj, G H Nagaraj, K Narayanappa, G R Narayanaswamy, K C Rajakant, former MLA S M Muniyappa, A T Krishna, Sushma Srinivas of Samata Mahila Vedike, Perikal Muniyappa, Mohammed Iqbal, M Jayaram, Krishnappa, P G Vijayakumar, Ambareesh, and others participated in the meeting.
