<div align="justify">A group of women, under the banner of Vijinapura Eco-Civic Team (VET), had organised a walkathon on Sunday morning to highlight the plight of Vijinapura lake in Survey number 85 of Lakshman Murthy Nagar.<br /><br />Apart from walkathon, an interactive session for women was held on ill-effects of sanitary napkins. The session aimed at educating the women on using eco-friendly sanitary napkins, homemade disinfectants like dishwashers, shampoo and phenoyl, to prevent the pollution of the waterbody.<br /><br />Also, talks on bird watching and lake conservation were held.<br /><br />Shilpa Narayanan, environmental researcher and a member of VET , said that scores of people from different walks of life participated in the all-women walkathon on Sunday.<br /><br />Vijinapura Eco-Civic Team and other like-minded organisations set the lake conservation activities in motion on June 3 by taking up a plantation drive. A flurry of activities are being taken up at lake premises every Sunday. We noticed that not many women took part in the activities. Thus, a dedicated walkathon for women was organised, Shilpa Narayanan said.<br /><br />She added, through the walkathon, we also want to convey to the government that the citizens of the area are serious about conserving the waterbody and continue doing so in future too.<br /><br /> The Bruhat Bengaluru Managara Palike (BBMP) has assured that work on lake rejuvenation will start by September-end, she informed.<br /></div>
