The city got the second case of swine flu with a 20-year-old medical student, testing positive for influenza A (H1N1) flu virus.

The student, whose name has not been released by the authorities, flew into the city on May 30 after spending a month in Toronto, Canada and two days in Chicago in the USA.
He flew into Hyderabad from London in a British Airways flight on May 30. He developed respiratory problems, running nose and body aches and was admitted to the government-run Chest Hospital here. Throat and nasal swabs that were sent to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases, New Delhi, confirmed the H1N1 infection.

A hospital spokesman told the media the student is being treated and will be  tested again after five days to track the treatment’s progress regularly.

The student’s mother and brother, both of whom travelled with him, are also under watch though they have not shown any signs of developing the infection.

Meanwhile, the student’s co-passengers on the flight are being traced with the help of British Airways.
