Indian girls crowned team champions in Asian Weightlifting

Her total lift of 156kg fetched her a silver to end her event on three medals.
The four other Indian girls -- PN Lakshmi Priya (44kg), Pramila Krisani (53kg), Kopparthi Shireesha (58kg) and Budumuru Rajeswari (69kg) could not add any medal but finished not below fifth position which led to the country maximum points in the girls section.
A country gets points in every weight category according to the position its lifter finishes.

An elated Indian Weightlifting Federation President Birendra Prasad Baishya told PTI that this is the first time that the country has been crowned team champions in any Asian Championships.

"It is a proud moment for the country and it is the first time that India has been crowned team champions in any Asian Championships. It is a good development for the IWF despite the various problems we are facing now," Baishya said from Tashkent.
"It was a tough competition as there were Asian powerhouses China, Uzbekistan, Korea, Chinese Taipei, Iran. Our girls produced a superb performance. Santoshi bagged a gold and two silver. The other girls finished fourth or fifth positions," he said.
Twelve lifters will represent India in the Asian Junior Championships which begins at the same venue from April 13.Santoshi will also compete in Asian Junior Championships in 48kg category.
