Heat wave hits 'sun city'

Gulbarga recorded the highest maximum temperature of 42 degree and the highest night temperature soared to 28 degrees. Besides, absence of summer showers or unseasonal rains have only made the situation worse for the people.

The worst affected by sapping heat are students who are gearing up to face various examinations. The newborns and the aged are also in need of special care due to the oppressive summer.

Though girls usually cover their arms with long gloves and face with veils, working women have no other go but to brave the heat in order to get square meal a day. But, the vendors of sugarcane juice, fruit juice, lemon juice, tender coconuts and cold drinks make a roaring business.

The unprecedented load-sheddings and power shutdowns, for four to six hours usually, have added salt to injuries. Hence, there is an increase in demand for inverters of different capacities which help at least keep the fans on during the load-shedding.
