Lung space for B'lore cantonment

Last Updated 04 June 2009, 17:58 IST

Field Marshal K M Cariappa Park on Cubbon Road was conceived during Aug 1994 and executed within 20 months. Covering an area of 22 acres of land in the heart of the City, it  provides valuable lung space and green cover.

With traffic density being large in the vicinity of the Park, it acts as a carbon sink and absorbs all the pollutants released to the atmosphere by the large number of vehicles plying in the CBD (Central Business District). The Park is kept open in the mornings and evening and is frequented by large number of people fond of jogging and walking. On holidays and Sundays it is kept open throughout the day.

At present, the Cariappa Park is also being used as an Army Environmental and Ecological Training Area for imparting training to Army personnel on ecological and environmental aspects such as integrated water management, recharging of ground water, soil conservation, means to combat air and water pollution and solid waste management.
