Rowdy killed in encounter

An inspector sustained a bullet injury in the incident, said the police. Johnson was involved in several  major offenses like murders, attempts to murder, dacoities and extortions. Ever since he eliminated his opponent Palani in 2006, Johnson  had managed to give slip to police on several occasions by changing his hideouts in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

“The City police had information about his stay in the City. A special team to nab him was constituted 15 days ago. The police were tipped off about his movement on Nagawara Ring Road on early Monday morning. When the police instructed him to surrender, Johnson started firing at them and the police had to shoot in self-defence,” the City Police Commissioner Shankar M Bidari said.

Dramatic

The police team comprising KG Halli inspector T Rangappa, Mahadevapura inspector Mohammad Rafique, HSR Layout inspector LY Rajesh and staff rushed towards Nagawara in two jeeps after they received information about Johnson’s movement around 5 am.

The team chased and accosted him at Veeraiahanapalya. Johnson did not surrender when the police directed him to do so.  All of a sudden, Johnson opened fire at the police. Rangappa and Rafique opened three rounds of fire at him when he started running away. He suffered injuries on his chest, hand, head and collapsed. Inspector Rajesh sustained bullet injuries on his left hand and is recovering at a hospital.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) M R Pujar, Joint-Commissioner of Police (Crime) Alok Kumar and Forensic Science Laboratory experts visited the spot. “M R Pujar will submit a report after conducting an investigation into the incident. The police will follow the guidelines of the Human Rights Commission while conducting the inquiry,” said Bidari.

Johnson murdered Faizal in January 2006 in Mahalakshmi Layout. He barged into Hosmat Hospital with his associates and hacked a notorious rowdy Palani to death with lethal weapons in February 2006. After the incident, Johnson was hiding in Tamil Nadu. He would frequently visit the City for committing dacoity, attack and extortion. He is said to have been involved in similar offenses in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
